Kaio Witana started the Koha Seafood company two year ago from the Parengarenga Harbour paradise.

Koha Seafoods distributes Pacific Oysters and other seafoods from the Far North throughout the north island, and into the south island.

The oysters are grown in the Parengarenga Harbour in the Far North. Mullet from the Ranganu Harbour and other species when available.

"Being so far to the North  made it difficult to find a software supplier willing to put the effort in to ensure success of our business."

The business has been operating for only two years and has already been accepted as one of the preferred suppliers by many restaurants around the country.

Being based primarily on Oyster sales, it is very seasonally based.

The shareholders of Koha get a "Profit and Loss" and "Balance sheet" reports monthly showing

the activities of the business. Also, additional reporting is generated which is specific to their requirements.

"Any support and additional reporting is don't for us via the internet connection to our computer network."

The Oysters are processed and packaged for resale. They then invoice the customer for the orders received. These sales are then tracked back to the supplier for payment of the received goods.

Payments are received from the customers mostly by direct credit or by cheque.

The packaging is tracked through the system for control of the stock items, but sold at a zero value.

One of the requirements of the business is to perform an audit for the Ministry of Fisheries Department. For this to happen successfully, the documentation of the physical operation is also audited against the financial recording. The documented procedures have been put in place to ensure success.

With the infra structure of the business in place, it is  inevitable that Koha Seafoods will continue to prosper and grow.

"Maintaining a tight control of our cash flow and keeping the banks well informed has enabled us to securely expand our business."
